Symptoms of neuropathy include sensations such as numbness, tingling, prickling, and burning in the hands and feet, which can progress to the arms and legs. Additionally, acute pain, muscle weakness, lack of coordination, extreme sensitivity to touch, and, in more advanced cases, even loss of movement can occur.
Sensory Symptoms
Numbness, tingling, or “pins and needles” sensation
Sharp, stabbing, throbbing, or burning pain
Extreme sensitivity to touch, with pain during activities that normally do not cause pain
Feeling like you are wearing gloves or socks when you are not
Coldness in the feet or hands
Motor Symptoms
Muscle weakness, which can lead to difficulty moving
Lack of coordination and falls
Muscle atrophy (shrinking and weakening of muscles)
Muscle cramps
Deformities in the feet and hands
Autonomic Symptoms (autonomic nerves)
Changes in blood pressure or heart rate
Excessive or absent sweating
Sexual dysfunction
